Ask an Expert: Preservation Help & Insights

For Ohio Preservation Council members, we have a service called Ask an Expert: Preservation Help & Insights, a way to ask about preservation or archival issues.

Members can ask preservation-related questions that members of our executive team will respond to, but please note if it is an emergency or time-sensitive request, you may want to check one of the services below for an immediate response.

The OPC Leadership consists of preservation experts, archivists, and librarians, so feel free to ask for advice on matters related to anything in those areas of expertise - questions on individual items, collections management, processing approaches, etc.

PLEASE NOTE: As OPC is a volunteer-operated organization, responses may take up to a few weeks. If you're experiencing an archival emergency (such as damage from a natural disaster), please refer to the resources below for immediate assistance:

National Heritage Responders at 201-661-8068

Northeast Document Conservation Center's Disaster Assistance 24/7 Emergency Hotline at 1-855-245-8303

Additionally, it is possible that the solution to your issue may require more extensive, paid assistance. If this is the case, we will direct you back to OPC's vendor list with our recommendation on what type of specialist to consult.

If you know you need a conservator, please see the American Institute for Conservation's Find a Conservator page. If you need funds to conserve an item, consider applying for the State Library of Ohio's LSTA grant.
